The Mach 5 (also spelled as the Mach Five) is the star vehicle in the 60's anime Speed Racer. It is known for having a pointed front and it's iconic white coloring.

It appears as a race car in the race scene in the film adaptation of Ready Player One, first seen piloted by an unknown avator (user), and later on it is seen as Daito's main vehicle.

Appearance[]

The Mach 5 has a pointed design, with three dull sharp-points at the front, with no hood, two small, pointed spoilers at the back, and large number fives imprinted on it's sides. It is completely white in color, with a large red colored M on it's hood.

In the Ready Player One film adaptation, the Mach 5 has a different appearance; It no longer has a pointed front, and has the same pointed spoilers, albeit more smaller. It now sports an orange line on it's lower half, with it's lower half being black or grey in color. It has a large five on it's back, and on it's door sides. On various angles, it has a light or dark grey color.

It's pilot is most likely a made up avatar, but could be any of the licensed characters seen on the Racetrack. However, a model of the Mach 5 is owned by Daito.

Role in Ready Player One[]

The car is seen at the racetrack, right behind the A-Team Van, where there is no driver visible in sight. When the race start, it is not seen, but is most likely in the back of the rows of cars. The Mach 5 does in fact race in this scene. It is not seen for the majority of the scene, but the Mach 5 does manage to avoid the bridge traps, and jump over the Hot-Wheels-like ramps, to the point where it almost collided with Parzival's DeLorean. It is possible it crashes in the race, as it is not seen again.

It comes back again in the re-race, but it is not scene in the re-race.

When Parzival wins and tips off Art3mis, and Aech, Aech tips off his and Parzival's friend Daito, who is seen with the Mach 5. It's confirmed that the Mach 5 is Daito's main vehicle of choice.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible that the Mach 5's film design has cues from the Alfa Romeo 33/2 Coupé Speciale concept car, which has a design similar to the Mach 5.
